The Word of God May 29, 2007
Posted by Anya in : I won't keep things purposely vague , trackbackAlright. I know that I am preaching to the choir by posting this here, given the people who read my blog, but I was most highly put out by a catalog which we received today from CBD.
I always like to check out the Bibles, because I pretty much unofficially collect Bibles, especially ones in different languages. Even though CBD doesn’t have many of those, I’m always interested to see what translations they have and what their reviewers have to say about them. I guess it was a good thing that I got a wee bit sunburnt yesterday. It may have helped camouflage the redness of my neck as I looked at the Bibles. The first thing which annoyed me greatly was The Testament – an abridged version of the Bible. Excuse me? Abridging the Bible? Wow. Which part of Revelation 22:19 don’t you understand? “If anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city”? Furthermore, the Bible is God’s inspired Word (II Peter 1:21, II Timothy 3:16 and 17.) We are human. We mess up (I think that is a commonly known fact and that I am not breaking any taboos to tell you that!). Who are we to decide which parts are necessary and which parts are not? So yeah, I was already very frustrated about that. But as if that hadn’t been bad enough, I looked over and saw “The Contemporary Torah: A Gender-Sensitive Adaptation of the JPS Translation”. What? AAAAAAAHCK.
I think I’ll try to do a few fun posts here soon. But… *sizzles*… on the one hand, my, I get annoyed easily. But on the other hand, God’s Word is extremely important. See Psalm 119 for clarification.

That needed to be said! And I am too worn out (or too overwhelmed with the move, etc!) to comment intelligently or appropriately. So — thanks, Anya!
Oh my. *fumes* *sizzles* *head explodes* I believe I get even more annoyed than you, if that’s possible.
In any case, I completely agree with you. God’s word is not to be tampered with in any way!!!
Yikes! All part of Satan’s strategy of watering down and minimizing the Word of God…
