(Not) Taking Responsibility August 1, 2007
Posted by Anya in : I won't keep things purposely vague , 4commentsMaybe I’m in a “what’s wrong with the world” frame of mind, but I don’t think that’s quite it.Â
I was reading WORLD today. Their cover article was about how the Democrats-for-President are doing debates using questions that anyone sends in from Youtube. (Clear as mud on that?) Anyway, the part that really bugged me was this… the moderator, Anderson Cooper, re-asked a question which John Edwards had dodged the first time through: ” ‘Why is it OK to quote religious beliefs when talking about why you don’t support something?’ An uncomfortable-looking Edwards replied: ‘It’s not.’ “ And what, exactly, is the point of religious “beliefs” if they don’t affect what you believe and support?Â
The other thing in WORLD that made me wonder about how people can so obviously be irresponsible was the article Pass the Buck, which concerned people “buying” other people’s energy efficiency to make up for their own wastefulness.Â
Where has our culture… and maybe it’s not just America, but since that’s where I live, that’s what I see!… lost the idea that sacrifice is needed to love? If you truly love the enviroment, you may *gasp* need to downsize your mansion :P, carpool… plant trees yourself… If you truly think that your religious beliefs have any meaning, you should stand up for them — even if it means that you look like a fool and lose the election.Â
Alright. Now go read something fun, like our poems on Mom’s blog.
