Posted by Anya in : spontaneous degeneration , trackbackWell. I got chapter two of the Lord Peter story finished. And… I’m feeling singularly uninspired in continuing it. *sigh*
The cool news: I picked up quite a bunch of foreign change today, including euros, coins from the Philippines, coins from Hong Kong and coins from Helvetia. Funky, eh? Goes right along with volunteering at a pregnancy crisis center.Â
Also. I reread The Great Divorce, and A2 was precisely right (which should surprise pretty much no one!) — I thought it was weird the first time through and quite good the second time through.
And… summer vacation is coming up, so I should have time to catch up on the books you all have been recommending to me.Â
So far, the list is:
Midnight is a Place by Joan Aiken [for Anika]
The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson [for StrongJoy, obviously!]
The Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard [for Griffin, who has made the bargain that he’ll read A Severe Mercy if I read a book for him. Fair enough.]
So what else ought I to be reading?

I had mixed emotions as I read this.
Firstly, a struggle with envy. But, I hope you enjoy your summer holidays and the reading time they will afford.
Secondly, shock. You are actually going to read Midnight is a Place? My, I shall have to be more careful next time I recommend a book to someone…some people actually take my advice! (Mostly people smile sweetly and say, “Oh that’s nice Anika. I’ll file that away in my trivia box entitled “The 1001 books Anika thinks are essential reading” :D.) But seriously, despite the few (problem) things I think I mentioned in that conversation, it is a good book.
Thirdly, that of determination…to finish my overhanging schoolwork so I can read Chapter 2 of Lord Peter.
On to Renaissance music!
Oh, and as I skim-read it again….
Fourthly, surprise. “Funky?” You are the last person on earth I would expect to use that word.
Fifthly, remembrance. I really must get Daddy to show me his coin collection again one of these days…
Cool! Our summer vacation’s already started. This was our last week of school! *major cheering*
I have tons of stuff I plan to do this summer, including reading some more books. C.S. Lewis is high on the list.
Why, how sweet of you! I feel sort of like Anika here…I’ve got a long list of people who have promised to read certain books for me, but you’ll almost definitely be the first to actually do it…:)
I collect coins foreign coins too - in fact I very recently got one from Helvetica! I have some Philippine coins and euros, but nothing from Hong Kong

i keep getting more Peter Wimsey books out from the library, hoping they’ll be as good as your version, but they never are.
