Hello again, world July 2, 2008
Posted by Anya in : spontaneous degeneration , trackbackI’m not really sure what to post about. :P Amazing, eh? Let’s see. I’ll try the more actually journal-ly type of post.
I finished reading Crime and Punishment. Given how much I did not enjoy The Brothers Karamazov, I expected to drag myself through C&P as well. Oh me of little faith. It was exciting. Scary, too… and parts were a bit too true to life depictions of depravity, but it was good. And the ending had rather more resolution, which I appreciate.
Speaking of endings with resolution, what is it with Gone With the Wind? Granted, I didn’t watch the entire movie. But… AUGH.
I still think that this quote (from this site) is nigh unbeatable:
- Lawyer: “When he went, had you gone and had she, if she wanted to and were able, for the time being excluding all the restraints on her not to go, gone also, would he have brought you, meaning you and she, with him to the station?”
- Other Lawyer: “Objection. That question should be taken out and shot.”
I’ve been working on the Hebrew alphabet. This is true even though David K managed to throw me on the second question he asked.Â
I’ve been listening to Sink ‘n Swim. It’s mostly enjoyable.
I tried taking pictures of fireflies for Mom tonight. They didn’t work out that well. The fireflies are exquisitely beautiful, but they don’t really go for the whole sitting still thing and flashing on the count of three.
The Silmarillion is almost done. And then what? Ah well… I’m hardly out of reading material yet. ![]()

Ooh…. I’ve wanted to read C&P for a long time. Maybe sometime this coming year.
Right now though I have early school reading to do. Pride and Prejudice and A Tale of Two Cities. I am most certainly not complaining.
I LOVE A Tale of Two Cities! It’s amazing.
How are you liking The Silmarillion?
I’m working on your letter. ^_^ Hopefully I’ll be able to get it sent out to you before OPC camp.
Cool. I haven’t read Crime & Punishment yet, but The Silmarillion is one of my all-time favorites.
Oops. Madeline, I LOVE the Silmarillion. It’s incredible… so much deeper (and denser :P) than LotR.
I read C&P a year ago (and only once since). I loved it, but it also make me rage. I just started BK, so I don’t have much of an opinion yet except for a general sense that most, if not all, the characters are jerks. However, thats just a first impression.
